About OTI 2017
OTI 2017 will take place July 17 - 21 at Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio. The week long program has two tracks: one for high school youth and one for adults interested in or currently working with youth.
Youth TrackAre you a high school student that lives a drug free lifestyle? Are you a leader in your school or community, or do you have an interest in being one? Are you interested in meeting other drug free youth from around the state of Ohio? If you answered YES then OTI is for you!
OTI is a drug free leadership conference for high school students. Through the program, you can develop the skills to become a positive leader within your school and communities. Already have a leadership role in a school organization? OTI is a great place continue growing as a leader. You don't have to be involved in a TI group at your school to attend! OTI is a valuable experience for students involved in other drug prevention programs like SADD, Teen Advisors, and PRIDE. Come and share your local experiences and learn new ideas to take back to your local program. Members of student councils, key clubs, and class officers will also learn new skills and ideas. During the week long conference, you will participate in small discussion groups. We call them family groups because your group will feel like family by the time you leave! Family groups are a time to really get to know a smaller group of youth from other areas, play games, and share ideas. Participants also select workshops to attend to learn new skills and knowledge, hear from motivational speakers, and showcase their talents during the annual talent show. While at Heidelberg University in Tiffin, you'll stay in one of their residence halls and eat in their cafeteria. Heidelberg University offers a beautiful campus. Haven't been there? Adult TrackThe Ohio Teen Institute Leadership Conference isn't just for high school students- it is also for adults! The Teen Institute Advocate (TIA) track is designed to build knowledge and skills in effective prevention programming for youth. Over a dozen adults participated in the 2014 OTI conference. It is an experience unlike any professional conference you have attended!
During the conference, TIA's will spend time networking and sharing ideas with each other, as well as learning more about the prevention field, the Teen Institute program, and how to work effectively with youth. TIA's will have the opportunity to hear from others who currently provide preventing programming to youth and learn about what makes their programs successful and how they have overcome challenges. TIA's will also attend workshops geared to increasing knowledge and skills about specific drug, youth, and prevention issues. They will also have an opportunity to hear from motivational speakers and attend the annual talent show. Possibly one of the most rewarding experiences of the Ohio Teen Institute Leadership Conference is having the opportunity to meet young people who have made a commitment to making positive, drug free choices and have a passion for encouraging others to make drug free choices as well. The TIA track is an excellent source of training for prevention professionals, advisors of Teen Institute and other drug free leadership groups, and anyone with a passion for preventing high risk choices in youth. You don't want to miss this experience! |
